Love, love, love your ideas! Will certainly incorporate them in my reading lessons. Some of these will work perfectly with the genre bingo my class just started on. Thank you so much for sharing :D

Mad Magazines and Spy vs Spy were always a favorite reading past time when I was younger. Certainly controversial is good too (I recommend Scott Adams books "God's Debris" or "The Dilbert Principle" but I also happen to be a radical agenda pusher). I read most of Micheal Chrichton's books for the thrill of hazardous technology gone rampant. Sexy, um, I suppose you could subliminally pull that off in 5th grade, but anything on the conscious level would make you a bad influence via the parents. Still, I wonder if there is something more practical for kids too enjoy (I want to eventually publish a book about physics/math/skepticism for that level of reading some day, perhaps I'll push a libertarian or business agenda of some kind too, perhaps something about capitalism and the joys of becoming rich and powerful via the basic principles of working hard and smart, perhaps something geared toward gaining the competitive edge and basic leadership skills).
